Whatever size of outdoor space, you can use cushions outside creating spaces you will love. One thing confirmed during the last few years is that spending time outside is vital for mental wellbeing. Whether it is quite time on the balcony with a book, or getting that water hose out with the children, time outside should definitely be top of our things to do! Creating quiet spaces or social spaces doesn’t need to be expensive. You can quickly, and easily, transform a boring bench into an inviting bench.
Transforming a garden bench

If you have a garden you will probably have at least one aging bench that needs some love.
We have a number of vintage benches in our garden. All have been collected through the years. Plus many were vintage when we purchased them. There is just something about vintage in the garden that seems to gel for me.
Additionally, I am constantly using cushions to help transform our benches into focal points in the garden. One of the great things about transforming a bench is that you can get adventurous. After all, the colour scheme you’re working with is your garden! Plus, it is so easy to change a cushion cover or move a cushion to another area. Therefore creating a totally new vibe on your bench doesn’t need to cost the earth.
Plus, the great news is your options are endless. So whether you are creating a decorative focal point or a place to sit and have a quiet cuppa, don’t be afraid to be creative.
Creating a social seating space with cushions outside

Whatever the size of your outdoor space, you will probably want to use it to entertain friends and family.
Be mindful that creating a social space outside could take significant time and energy. Of course, this depends on your starting point and what you are trying to achieve. The transformation of the social seating area in the Neith Textiles garden started in the autumn and is still ongoing. However, this includes creating privacy using plants and shrubs. Plus allowing time for our robins and blackbirds to raise families in an extremely overgrown clematis!
Our structural planting is complete with climbing roses and a fruiting cherry tree. However we still have work to do on creating some fab flower beds.
Also, the type of seating still needs to be finalised. However, one thing I am sure about is the need for striped cushions! There is something about striped cusions and summer that just seems right. Whatever your style preference, cushions will definitely transform your social seating space into a welcoming space for family and friends.
Personalising balcony seating

Balconies definitely aren’t a one size fits all kind of space. However, whatever size your balcony is you can easily restyle it to ensure you make the most from your outdoor space.
We loved browsing through the brilliant balcony ideas House Beautiful shared. And yes, we spotted cushions in most of the photos!

Here at Neith Textiles we are passionate about cushions and believe there is a cushion for every style and every space.
We search far and wide to source unique and gorgeous fabrics for the cushion covers we hand craft in our Northamptonshire workshop. Plus we source Fair Trade and fairly traded cushions that we think you will love. Also, you will spot some GoodWeave cushion covers on our virtual shelves. These are certified as having no child labour involved in the manufactoring process. You can browse and shop our current range of cushions here.
If we have inspired you, we would love to see how you have transformed your garden bench or seating area in your outdoor space. Share your pics with us on social media.
